We are in mountain biking heaven. Whether it is the mythical raid des terres noires, the Chemin du Soleil (which links Grenoble to Nice in stages), the traversée l’Alpes Provence, all pass through our Gites Les Terres Noires.

So whether you want to train in the hardships of the black soil or to explore our “playground”, our gîte is the ideal starting point!

We have prepared documents listing the routes in the Terres Noires from our gîte. We will be able to define a route adapted (with GPX tracks) to your desires and your level!

l’Alpes Provence

This is a mountain biking crossing of the Alpes de Haute Provence from east to west on marked trails for almost 240km. It is a journey that can be completed in one week. We are in the heart of the route between La Javie and Digne-les-Bains.

Les chemins du soleil

These are mountain biking routes of more than 1400 km that link Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea (Nice) through the Alps. We are on the Sisteron-Nice route which takes a week to complete between Dourbes and the Col de la Cine through the Terres Noires.

Le 1st « Bike Park » (EVO bike park) open all year round, is a rider’s paradise for downhill, freeride, enduro and dirt… And this jewel is located just 15 minutes away from us!

Marked paths in the Dignois region

There are 22 mountain biking marked paths in the Dignois region and 4 of them pass through our village: n°15 (Le Tour d’Emporte), n°16 (La Ferme Belon), n°17 (Les Terres Noires) and n°22 (Le Gravel des Terres Noires).

I would give 10 stars for this lovely paradise Caroline and Marc created in the midst of Les Terres Noires. We stayed 6 nights at their studio with a private entrance, beautiful interior design and all the amenities we needed. The place is sparkling clean, spacious and comfortable. Also the WiFi is remarkably fast. The surroundings are very peaceful and quiet. We felt at home from the very beginning. Our hosts did an outstanding job with providing us an unforgettable mountainbike holiday experience. Each day we were served extra delicious breakfast with homemade products, followed by carefully customized tips for spending our day in the saddle. On one evening we also had dinner with them which was absolutely delightful. Caroline and Mark are extraordinarily welcoming, interesting and intelligent people who have their hearts in the right place and lots of fantastic stories to share. We enjoyed every single conversation a lot. The whole property, including the garden, they intricately renovated and cleverly re-engineered with great respect to nature and sustainability. "A rare find", "a hidden treasure" are too often used terms in reviews, but this place definitely deserves these labels. We were sad to leave but we will definitely come back to this magical home away from home and these lovely people. Thank you for everything 🙂

Great place to relax and enjoying the day, the breakfast was super with lot’s of choice and homemade cakes, slept well and great owners of the place! For sure I must come back!

We were traveling through France by car and Gites les terres noires was our last spot before going back home and it was by far my favorite. Marc and Caro make you feel welcome right from the beginning. Marc is really enthusiastic and dedicated to preserve the area and provides a lot of info about the trails, wildlife and nature in general. A book with many trails could let you hike here for weeks and a lot of them start right from the accommodation which is close to a 100 people village. If you are looking for a true nature experience this should be your stop. We had dinner and breakfast one day which is all homemade by Caro and it was just great. I’m definitely looking forward to come back especially because I couldn’t see le Circaete. Sorry again for the miscommunication when it came to changing the flats.

Our stay at Marc's and Caroline's gite was definitely the highlight of our tour. The surrounding is a beautiful, natural, yet unspoiled playground for mountain bikers. Their gîte is super comfortable and well equipped, the food (we opted for the full board) was all home made and delicious and the kindness of the hosts is a rare treat. Marc showed us around his garden and explained the problematic soil of the terres noires. He even helped us sawing an overly long seat post. And we had long and friendly conversations all evening. Thank you very much!

Excellent reception from the hosts on arrival , tour of the eco garden , garage for the bicycles , home cooked evening meal and breakfast top class , and the accomadation to match, highly recommended for all mountain bikers and walkers. And plus all the information for the trails in the surrounding area at hand .

Our stay at the home of Caroline and Marc was a highlight on our Chemin du Soleil. We did not only love the spacious very clean studio, the garage for the mountainbikes, the delicious dinner together with the two of them, the home made crepes for breakfast, the beautiful views and the peaceful silence but especially the spirit of the house. We miss the good conversations with open-minded very nice people who found their paradise to live their life in respect to the village and nature. A perfect place for those who like to explore the breathtaking landscape of the Terres Noires. Marc has a lot of tour ideas for hikers and bikers and knows all about the fantastic geology and the nature of the region.
